Annie’s presence and the love that she pours into her teaching is unlike anything I have ever experienced. She cares deeply for her students and the traditions of ashtanga yoga. Through her teaching I have not only advanced my physical practice, but I have found something beautiful within myself that continues to love and strive to learn.
Meeting with Annie was absolutely invigorating. She had an amazing vitality and presence. Everything from her posture to her gestures to her voice-it was all filled with such intentionality and strength. Annie’s visit made me think a lot about the making of place. She was so effortlessly at home when we visited her, comfortable, confident, and strong. It shined through in the way that she subconsciously presented herself and acted. It made me realize that the place we choose to root ourselves is crucial. We should ultimately aim to live in a home that is a perfect sanctuary and reflection of our identity, because it absolutely influences our livelihoods. And if we do not find such a place, we should follow Annie’s example, and build it ourselves.
There are so many things I love about Annie, it is hard to describe in just a few words. But one predominant trait I love about Annie is her integrity. She radiates strength and grace. And her teaching style is so accessible, yet holds the essence of the tradition. She shares the teachings beautifully, with strong integrity and respect for the lineage, and delivers it with compassion and much joy. In short, Annie lives the teachings, embodies it from gross to subtle, and is very generous with sharing her wisdom. I am forever grateful for Annie’s presence in my life!
Finding Annie as a teacher has been a blessing. She got me to reconnect with the foundation of the practice, which helped me find a stronger, more stable and painless way. Crestone is a magical place and I really hope I can come back soon.
Living in Crestone and studying with Annie for a whole month, was definitely a life-changing experience. I love the way she can transmit with example and through personal experience the real practice and what yoga really means. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to study with Annie and call her my teacher!
The way Annie’s love and devotion flow in her every action has left me full of both inspiration and contentment, after only one weekend! I look forward to the opportunity to make the pilgrimage to Crestone!
I had no idea what a powerful experience it would be stepping into the Wednesday morning Fundamentals class at Shakti Sharanam. My previous conception about what yoga is has been blown away and replaced by a heart opening expansiveness I never dreamed possible. This yoga, in its authenticity, is life changing. How blessed we are to have Annie in our community.
Annie is the most invested and present mentor I have ever encountered, and I include in that list people from all areas of my life and career. I don’t believe that I could have begun to build such as strong foundation in my practice without her focus and guidance.
The very first time I stepped into Shakti Sharanam Yoga Shala in Crestone, I felt deep in my heart that this is “IT”. I was not new to the Ashtanga Yoga method and had been practicing for some time with different teachers but my desire to find real yoga had not been satisfied. When I began to study with Annie in Crestone, I was injured, discouraged and ready to never ever do this Ashtanga thing again! That sentiment changed in a heart-beat as I joined the group in the Shala and Annie started to teach me. What followed was a very powerful transformation - physical and in my heart. Annie re-kindled the fire for yoga deep within and for the first time, I felt safe and was able to practice Ashtanga Yoga without fear or pain. Shakti Sharanam Yoga Shala is a sanctuary and Annie a true safe-keeper of the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method. Her love and dedication to the lineage and her teachers is truly inspiring and as soon as you enter Shakti Sharanam, you can feel it. As student, I am eternally grateful for what Annie has taught and continues to teach me. It is an honor to be able to learn from and laugh with her.
When I received the invitation to visit friends in Crestone this summer, I was thrilled to discover Shakti Sharanam and have the opportunity to practice Ashtanga there with Annie Pace. I had been practicing Ashtanga for a few years, but not yet had had the opportunity to practice with someone so skilled and knowledgeable as Annie. She truly transmits what she has received from her Master and my time with her has helped me to take my own practice to a whole new level, for which I am incredibly grateful. She also offered invaluable guidance to me when she offered me a suggestion to shift how I was doing a simple posture that had been causing me pain in my neck and shoulders and increasingly becoming a chronic problem. Since spending time with Annie and following her recommendations, I haven’t had the neck and shoulder pain, and am able to access my body’s strength in a new way. My time in Crestone doing yoga with Annie was beneficial in so many ways; I look forward to being able to visit again! In gratitude.
